Thursday, 5/14/2020 - SAU29 COVID-19 Update

Good Afternoon,

By the time that this update goes out, I should be in the middle of the School Transition Reopening and Redesign Taskforce (STRRT) meeting. I am anticipating more information during this meeting that I will gladly pass along to you as well. If you would like to learn more or if you would like to register to watch the meetings, please visit the STRRT Website. We are fortunate that we also have a parent from our SAU sitting on the taskforce as well.  He has requested that I share his contact information for you so that you can reach out to either him or I with input you would like brought forward to the taskforce. The parent representative is Ed Bryans and his email address is - xxedbryansxx@gmail.com.

We’re nearing the end of our scheduled viewing for the film “Like” as we approach the end of the week. Watch and listen to this short clip from some of our fantastic educators throughout SAU 29 as they speak to the value of the film for your consideration (embedded for your convenience). The film itself is less than an hour long and provides some important insights to the impact(s) of social media on our lives. Information on how to access the film for viewing in your home is included in the update below.

This week’s student challenge comes to a close tomorrow at 5pm.  An email reminder went out to students this morning to help encourage and increase participation. Please see the details below and let your child(ren) know or have them check their SAU email account. I have been getting a lot of great responses and would like to be able to include as many as possible.

As tomorrow is Friday, I want to gently and politely remind everyone that may be having difficulties with remote learning to reach out to your child(ren)’s teacher(s), counselor, and principal.  I have received a number of emails from folks with concerns and we have been most successful when we are able to connect people with the right folks to help resolve the concerns.  In case I haven’t mentioned it, we have outstanding staff in all of our buildings that are ready to assist with any issues or concerns that may arise. They are very talented and skilled at what they do and quick at overcoming obstacles that may be causing concern. The one thing they have not been able to demonstrate though, is the ability to read minds. When they are unaware that there is a concern or issue it makes it very difficult for our staff to provide assistance and/or guidance. Understanding and being able to help is definitely easier and a lot smoother when the lines of communication are open and active. I bring this up now because after this week ends we are roughly four weeks out from the school year ending.

Last week I suggested that we all take a brief moment to plan something to celebrate our individual efforts with the new reality we are working through. It has taken a massive amount of effort on each of our ends so please pause for a moment and do celebrate your efforts, you deserve it!  Plus, the forecast looks a lot warmer this weekend than it was last weekend. I think not knowing when the end of this will be makes it more difficult at times, but, I remind myself at the end of every day that we are one day closer to that unknown end, and that collectively, WE GOT THIS!!!

Be Well,

Robb

May 11-15:  Like a film about the impacts of social media.

May 18-22:  Angst a film about anxiety in our youth.

May 25-29:  The Upstanders a film about Cyber-bullying.

A friendly reminder that we have limited viewings for each film, so it is really important that households only access one of the viewings. This will allow more of our families and our staff to be able to watch the films as well.
