Now that October is behind us, we have made it through the longest stretch of the school year for the majority of our schools. Going from Labor Day in September until our SAU wide professional development day tomorrow, will have covered 40 consecutive school days. And our students and staff have done an amazing job!
We continue to maintain five days a week of in person teaching and learning. The ability to do this is because of the collective efforts of everyone! To that, I say THANK YOU! Thank you for Doing Your Part in keeping our schools safe. It is greatly appreciated and while it may be difficult at times, it continues to be valuable in continuing with the five days in person structure.
As you may be aware, some of our schools have implemented voluntary asymptomatic pool screening and/or rapid result testing for symptomatic students in their building. These are strictly “Opt-In” programs for those that wish to participate and fully intended to make these services more accessible for families.
Similarly, with the FDA’s authorization of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children 5-11 years of age, many of our schools are looking at ways to host clinics for those that wish to participate. I need to stress that this is NOT a requirement for anyone, but an effort to make this service available for those that want it. As soon as information is finalized, specific details will be sent for folks to consider.
Shifting gears a little, thank you to those that responded to the "Blizzard Bag" survey that went out last month. In total, we had nearly 1,700 responses. The aggregate results are HERE for your review. This was both informative and helpful for the committee to review all of the input that was received.
Lastly, I want to remind everyone that there are A LOT of good things happening in our schools. Things that we can all be proud of whether we are in the middle of a pandemic or not. They are what makes our communities great places to live and to raise a family.
From the Racial Unity Team’s Art & Poetry Challenge 3rd place recognition at Nelson School, to the programs from the Harris Center, High 5 Outdoor Adventure and NHDI in many of our schools, to the band and choral concerts that were recently held at KMS and KHS, to the State Championships from our Bass Fishing and Girls Cross Country teams and the soon to come productions of “Sleepy Hollow” and “All Together Now” there’s a lot to celebrate and be proud of!

School meals remain free to all students for the 2021-2022 school year and include the reimbursable eligible meal for both lunch and breakfast. However, we strongly encourage you to send in your Free and Reduced applications. NOTE: These applications do not currently affect a student’s ability to receive free meals, if they are returned, it could mean that you will not receive a disruption in service if the current policy expires for next school year. Additionally, those eligible applications are used to determine funding levels in many federal programs including Title I Entitlement grants. So please complete those applications.
Like many of today’s goods and services, the District is experiencing disruptions and delays in receiving food and supplies that we need to implement the school lunch program. Demand is high and supply is limited. Please understand that our staff is working hard to secure food and supplies so that we can meet all of the posted menu offerings each day. However, we have had to make substitutions more often than usual. We expect these challenges to continue. We apologize for any inconvenience or disappointments these substitutions cause and appreciate your patience and understanding.

All high school students should turn in their Chromebook permission slip to their house office.
Parent and Students: Chromebooks should be used for your school work only. Please do not eat while using your school issued Chromebook. We are experiencing high volumes of damaged Chromebooks due to spills. Please make sure you fill in the online registration for your students.
It is important to have all the correct information in place.
