good evening and welcome to the Keene Board of Education meeting for September 12th 2023 good please rise for the Pledge of Allegiance United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible thank you and Welcome to our first regular meeting of the 23 24 school calendar we do open public input by law we need to leave public input open for half an hour so using round numbers will have public input open until 7:05 did anybody is here now want to speak okay if you change your mind just flagged me down and as always if somebody comes in in the next half hour they can also have an opportunity to give input for those of you watching the livestream you can also email public input to Shana pelkey at the center office care of the superintendent can I have a motion to pass the consent agenda so I moved second to anybody have items they wish removed from the consent agenda herbaliz errors for the when it's winter in there seeing none all those in favor any opposed carries 80 report to the board chair I'd like to welcome everyone back to our schools for the 2324 Administration the maintenance staff very busy over the summer getting ready as well as our Educators and there was a number of statement of changes in mandated changes to curriculum they had to adjust for their all so busy preparing what schools are going to be competency-based this year there was a lot of work to get that ready to roll out on a number of new administrators and various positions across the district so like to welcome everyone back and thank you for the work over the summer by all reports the opening at all of our schools went very early this year we had this is the first year and I think four years that I have not received an angry letter from a parent and at least one of our schools we got nothing this year little glitches I was here for freshman orientation there was comments in passing about a video that didn't play in the opening scenes but you know nothing major reports from the kids are the things are going pretty well so again thank you to our staff and Educators and administrators for everything ready to go this year and especially thank you to our students and families for being patient and cooperating and entering the school year was going to do the azzam I did get some public feedback over the summer this is kind of wonky unless you follow education closely at the state level you won't have seen this last year the legislature passed new requirements for personal finance and economics unit at our high school level I'll grab students need a half-credit which in and of itself that's not a bad idea and it's kind of irrelevant I did get one person complaining about that but that's not much that we can do at our level but one proposal from the state is to use a program from a company called Prague you to fulfill that academic creditor to make it an option for high schools to use that despite its name prageru is not an academic institution they are an entertainment company that produces primary videos on YouTube and for Infowars with no actual teachers or Educators on their board in that basically I have already and had for I received input sent a letter to the state objecting to the use of that content specifically on the fact that it is not educational you sound it's about a 20-minute unit involving watching 3 YouTube video followed by an interactive online test which is not proctored and anyway so students could just look up the answers and fill them in themselves it was not created by Educators it wasn't reviewed by Educators and when it got to the state-level here there was no Educators on the board that reviewed it for approval So based on that I sent a letter to the d o e injecting to using that I am confident our teachers can and already have created a much more rigorous and relevant content that they get integrate into their own classrooms then was created by prageru without even getting into the ideological aspects of the weather in that's a good idea the other thing that's happened recently at the end of the summer some of you may have seen there was an excellent profile of one of our Middle School teachers and the Keene Sentinel it was a it was a great article on the teacher himself getting all of the work that he does at the middle school to help all of our kids feel welcome feel included learn about them and make sure that he's meeting their needs wherever they are and I think that also highlights a lot of the work been happening all of our schools in the last two years are recognizing the trauma that our students have gone through since the pandemic the difficulty in coming back to full-time student thing after basically being home for an entire year it was very challenging and our staff has worked very hard and all of the buildings to make sure that they are supporting the kids in ways that they didn't necessarily have to before and this profile the one teacher I think can I snapshot of what all of our teachers have been doing we really appreciate the work that they do in their efforts to include all of our students and make sure it's all of their needs are being met and I think that's thank you yes and make sure I pronounce this girl Rita Budokai another one of our Middle School teachers science teacher is a finalist for educator of the year and there's four four finalists so she's one of the four and they are doing observations in the Middle School to see how she works and how she works with the students prepare his lessons and and etcetera so we wish her the best of luck in the spine round and congratulations on reaching this point all right of the superintendent no one piece of business we did Cover over the sea we made a change or approved a change from Ben White's committee about the learn from home procedures in one part of that changes that we did had to put the tension snow days back in the calendar so those of you who may have how to school calendar early this year you should probably reference it again now that school started we've gone back to most people will be familiar with this but there are three potential snow days at the end of the school year we're hoping to be out on June 4th but the first three inclement weather days will be traditional snow days which would extend our calendar by three days so make sure if you're making plans based on the school calendar you use any updated once now I'm done report of suprep so I don't really have that much exciting stuff but for the beginning of school year or so percent Council typically its homecoming is on September 30th so a week earlier than last year show me that like class councils are right now really busy making floats and the theme this year is going to be music genres thank you Cat support of the superintendent mr. Malay thanks for that night I think it's good because it won't clash with a SAT test spect me to take place in October so thankfully we're not going to have that conflict again just real quick with redo me to Buddha Cody her observation will be in just a couple weeks and we were notified today that they'll be coming at the end of not the not next week the week after that they'll be no I'm sorry the end of next week yeah the end of next week I'll be over to observe her we wish you the best and there were 322 initial nominees and so does we're down to the final four Statewide so congratulations to her you mention some of the where's that we brought on from last year to this year and just to recap who they are we did a couple of them at the end of the year Michael Smith is the principal over at Keene Middle School Susan Grover is the principal now over at Simonds Elementary we had a couple of assistant principal vacancies here at Keene high school first one was filled by Jenny McKay and the second one was filled by David Miller so those are the four. administrators at what brought on in that regard and I want to introduce to you our interim student services director who was here tonight so that you can put a name with a face Kate Adams who has accepted this challenge to lead our student services division we're still looking to fill the position that she held as a town special ed administrator but Kate has stepped up and has done a great job so far all the reports of comeback very positively so I wanted to introduce them reports a long report apologize but it is beginning of the year that a lot of links that will lead to a lot of other things men Brian for will actually was Brian Michael Smith RI to Buddha Cody and Jess buono who facilitated a couple of parent meetings this summer to talk about the competency roll out for the eighth the participation was was okay on the first night was much better the second night and they just did a really good job of walking through what this means they put up a website that have ton of resources so if folks are looking for those for that information it is all posted on the SAU website so kudos to them for a job well done the Strategic thing is moving forward we've had a couple of meetings I put the updates their LinkedIn there so that you can go through it at your leisure and see some of the nitty-gritty of the work that's being done and that's available for you short version what we have moving forward is there will be a very widespread survey that'll go out to all of the stakeholders and all of the districts of sau29 that'll go out either the end of this either this Friday or next Monday we're just doing some fine-tuning on the student version of it because it's depending on how you respond it it what is that called a logic built in do you answer that I'm a student than it takes you to a specific set of questions that'll be worded slightly differently than they are if you answer that on my employee or an administrator so we're getting to the same information that sir they will be up for two weeks and we'll go in till September 29th and then when we get to October will be hosting a number of community forums it will be a community forums and total by our contract with our consult didn't show the specific dates times and locations will be released well ahead of time so that folks can save the date they're not all going to be in Keene we want to reach out to our towns throughout the SAU and be able to select their input as well we're not only doing these in school we actually are setting up or looking to set up a community Forum hopefully at the Pumpkin Fest so that we might attract folks to feel intimidated going into the school building we're also offering a couple of virtual or remote forums as well for folks who just find that to be more convenient as well so pretty mindful of that by the end of October we should have a really good day you pulled that will help us create a draft for the portrait of a graduate basically what we as a community feel we want our students to have in your tool kit when they leave school when they leave so that's what the goal is in that's moving forward plenty of other information in there a lot of work over the course of the summer I'm happy to answer any question do I do want to highlight and come into the business office incredibly under under siege with the departure of some staff at the beginning of the summer as we were closing out the fiscal year and they have been working incredibly hard to get financial reports and obligations completed so that we are timely with that and with that knowledge base no longer under employee it is taken a Herculean effort from Tim and his team to get closer we're almost there at the same time we are we've got our Auditors that are coming in so it's really a very busy time for the business office they're managing everything that they're able to manage and progress and make to make progress to get us closer to those requirements and hopefully we'll be through those woods sooner than later but I know it's been a huge effort they've been working collectively they brought back a familiar face to help along the way and they continue to beat that responsibility down b b b as a get a little bit closer to those requirements and then kind of on a side note no the facilities committee approved the purchase of a lining machine for our athletic fields in might seem trivial but it was it actually came in handy tonight because I was at a contest and the folks who are visiting we're saying that our field didn't meet regulation and so I looked up with the regulation was and then I called our director of building and grounds and I said hey do you have exact dimensions that this machine paint so you guys had let me pull it up and it's real data and he said it's exactly this across in this long and saw it like oh look at that well within the regulations until a complaint the rest were either easily so in besides a field looking phenomenal so just share that but if you have any questions happy to answer as are any member of the cult team who are here for you problem looking at position vacancies in your report that the middle school is fully staffed yes. It said staff members failed to give us last week or a few days after the start of the school year yep it was a Chloe bad the last couple years but high school has you no more than one or two positions particularly in math correct any other questions step up and give your name and address I'ma Jennifer McCauley address to 96 PECO Avenue proud parent of a freshman and Junior and just the to update Cypress just listening to from George and Rob made me think of of of some things I've had that pleasure of working with Robin the school board on two meetings that led up to this strategic planning but what came to mind is just hearing all the good news and particularly just really being so blown away by the profile of the teacher in in the Sentinel is just about how it speaks to our values around belonging and Excellence that working towards a place where every kid and belong allows them to achieve their excellence and as a kid who was in school in the 70s and 80s wear that was not necessarily a priority I just want to because of parents as to how much I appreciate all the hard work you're doing to support your teachers and your students and your staff to create that belong in excellent every child every teen every adults involved in school should feel a sense the longing because again that's how we're all excellent so just thank you so much thank you Jennifer it runs good with the superintendent alright building delivery services mr. right good evening I'll touch up on a couple highlights but there is a link in the agenda for some more details including the Thor update that mr. Dooley provides every month how do you highlight the activity buses that this group approved not that long ago although may seem like a long time ago at the time of last week two of the three vehicles were here miss your fifth third one is yet then. No not delivered yet so that the temps point they're getting DeKalb we should be pretty cool but the group is also leveraging engagement Sandler from the Chelmsford Massachusetts District where they have a solid program on keeping track of qualified drivers and scheduling utilisation the vehicles that's great we have a neighbor and a partner in crime to help facilitate we're seeing a lot of demand signal from sports teams and other groups were excited for these to be launched once we do it in a safe orderly manner so that'll be cool so when you're driving around look for some lettered vehicles McKean School District staffing needs to be kind of revolving-door unfortunately for that for the team we are still looking for an HP AC technician which are hard to come a plumber technician into custodians and in this District kudos to the group for a strong execution of electrical shutdown for the implementation of the new switchgear that have been on order in for quite some time these are not connected to our new zero block Transformers doing it in August allowed the team that minimize downtime and next acute this upgrade which should be something we get to leverage for the long-term future tennis courts look look amazing if you haven't seen them please check them out Rob so my thunder with the turf tank the automated line machine which is also helping. you on the original plan in the request was hey we can have people doing the right work versus spending a ton of time trying to line the fields and with Staffing shortages it helps a lot and it looks amazing work with. the Key Middle School for the parking lot in the gym resurfaced face to Wheelock is going well so mine and still getting closed out the team worked very hard over the summer and a lot of great collaboration by of the on-site team demonstration in the tea used to work with us to get this completed we'll have a topic in a minute regarding Fuller and jady so hold it for that in a couple or call one being that can in the group also did a great job replacing and upgrading our computerized maintenance management software and Angie software those projects are not easy but now we're able to at a lower cost have a more effective way to track work and leveraging our resources as efficiently as we can any questions for me on that then you want to switch it to you for the virginie sure I appreciate the the board I want us to take some time we did not have our much-anticipated jadi ventilation project budget back in time to present at the facilities committee but we need to get going because if we don't order equipment we won't be able to complete the project so there's a document called ventilation budget we had proposed I don't know year-and-a-half ago that this would be at 2.6 million dollar project budget came in at 2673000 dollars it does a little bit more than ventilation it does lighting as well throughout the building however we only have in the in the grant 1.9 million dollars I want to say about because I have some things that are in written in the grant to prove that we are going to spend so I think I can get that around 2 million not enough to do the project and complete the project and have been Elation at j.d. the proposed what I'm proposing are a couple options and I want to go through two of them on the next slide and they're listed as HVAC project options she look a little different than it did 10 minutes ago because not all my information came over on the first Batman so just read it while we're sitting here so you could see it all option one would essentially change what we do next year for elementary hpac and safety renovation there's a couple of reasons for that one is we don't have enough money in the grant to finish complete the ventilation Project Pat a j.d. if we took about $900,000 of that money that we would normally be spending at the Fuller project we could not only finish the HV AC project minus the gym hp80 which I'm recommending that we don't install and I'll explain why but we could also add in Ada bathrooms and some flooring needs not throughout the whole building like we've been doing it all up all our building but we essentially have a special education program without an ADA Bathroom in that area of a the building which doesn't make sense to me and I've been talking with facilities group that should be enough knew that we need to do bathroom project at j.d. this would allow us at the same time doing this project and what we would do at Fuller as we would go to Fuller and get ready for the project it's a big building allow us to do the gym floor in the gym Renovations at sprinkler riser and do the sprinklers in the gym the first year so that it's available for storage as we go around the building for the SummerSlam because without having a gym to store stuff in it's extremely challenging to empty a third of the building and where do you put it it makes a lot more work to and you have to get many Conex boxes outside and we have the gymnasium it would be good to stay I can get that done first before we go there for the full projects so we would spend about $810,000 at Fuller and be ready for the full project if the board did not think that was a good idea our next thing we can do is spend all the elementary renovation money at Fuller as planned do what we can, we'll spend more money on storage than normal but we can do that but we would have to cut a large portion of the ventilation out of the project at j.d. so essentially we would do our half the preschool the conference area and that's it and we would cut that down and and that would be about 2 million $90,000 can I think we can find the money in the grant to that and then we would go ahead and spend our elementary safety renovation money entirely at Fuller I'm not recommend 10 and Kenzie are also we're not recommending this our contractors not recommending this there they're saying get into j.d. get done the advantages of j.d. couple that I want to point out one is we just use the building differently so we don't have to just do it in eight weeks in the summer which is impossible we already are underway on our project to get the Conference Center meeting places finished and when that's finished instead of opening it up for that purpose we would open it up as a space to move classrooms in to create vacancies and we would work throughout the year so that creates an advantage to get this project done cuz it's too much work to do in a weeks the gym hbac weed it's $236,000 and we don't use the gym for typical gym space we have small classes and small occupancy so we just don't think that spending the money there makes a lot of sense for us in that building are they check Jim out and use it occasionally we have classes no bigger than 12 and small bodies and a large volume of air and it just doesn't make sense to invest that money in there and that would allow us to not do eating that in either one will allow us to do more so I'll answer questions cuz I gave a lot of information and hopefully it was clear and if it wasn't I apologize Tim yes if we go with the fur stop somewhere Fuller we only do this summer the gym and couple smaller Sprint when I'm lighting things does that ultimately bump the final completion of an entire summer out for Fuller yes but it may be bumped out anyway it's a large school things have cost more put it this way the gym and the sprinkler riser just that is going to cost $810,000 that would only leave us about $900,000 we're not going to do that many rooms so it might be three years out anyway but otherwise we take that off of the need and when we go to spend 1.7 million we're spending it on a 1.7 million space that we used classroom space so I'm not positive it changes the end date but it but it doesn't make the end a sooner and I'm still going to be minimum three years is the j.d. Jim space available for rental through facilities is that one of the spaces that we offer we do rent that space to a small class of kung fu and we have for several years but that's the only rental we've had evening class small number of people so we have been renting it's available in there doesn't really impact that one way or the other know because the hvc would be fit for a document C like 100 people are. I'm guessing and work putting you know 15 people any other questions for Tim and Rebecca the idiot bathrooms movie all the bathroom sitter and option one that are at JD currently or is it just the once at the preschool I still do how many sets are in the building and how many this budget includes we can't do every bathroom will probably freshen up bathroom but we will do one ADA Bathroom in the are Jonathan Daniels preschool side so that's the only one we are putting 280 a bath on the other side currently is part of art RPD Center renovation that's the project that were undergoing right now so that's not an issue down to the other side but within our secure perimeter we don't have a legal ADA Bathroom I had one more George I know cuz being on facility is the past couple years I understand why don't understand I guess about how complicated could you just explain like on I-84 anyone like listening who's me and doesn't really understand how that works like what the issue has been and how we have option and just you know just like a really high level overview work with at least three different design in. you want to try to get something that was doable so the difficulty is we did after covid it became heightened ventilation and we got all the current systems work but we don't meet the standards at Jade for ventilation it's very difficult because if you been in the building it's kind of wood beams large wood beams with a with a wood roof deck with low ceiling so if you can imagine where would you run ductwork you have to run it below the structural beams which a tall person would hit their head on and it looked pretty bad which we did you know in our other projects we had high ceilings were able to run duct side the ceiling if we needed to or between a drop ceiling which is like this architectural ceiling in the in the top roof deck we don't have that so that makes it really difficult to not ruin the Aesthetics and the functionality of the bill actually get ventilation in so the design is been that's $145,000 we have in design on this project and it's extremely difficult we think we have a project that doesn't ruin the building it certainly does improve the Aesthetics of the building but it improves the functionality of the building with fresh air and that's where we are you ever wish you could go back to 1970 and tell them to build the building differently just on this issue other questions did also ACS the preschool our side all right this is lord of the construction request you made last year I'm thinking in that and correct me if I'm wrong but you're asking us to commit to the 2.6 roughly million for this construction project so that you go ahead and start lining up materials and contractors if we wait until budget season it'll be too late to do that but it also means that we're committing to this being in the budget it becomes something that we can't juggle with at budget time yes that's accurate but it's 1.7 million in a general fund and the rest is Grant so yes we we locutor way we go. We're locking and order equipment for this purchase for next because I have no other way to if I wait until March the equipment won't be here in time to build is George points out for the summer this is an awkward venue to debate Option 1 vs. option 2 agreed if the board agrees to commit to the overall project is it enough time to take the option 1 verses to discuss two facilities next month or do you need the full decision tonight follow what I'm saying I do we need to order equipment whichever way we go this month before our next meeting which is why I came here I know it's awkward if I had to do it any other way I would much rather go to facilities with such a technical argument but I didn't get the budget until after I understand just trying to figure out how to proceed and we can pull it off all right I think what I would like to do who is first have a motion to approve the overall project because if the board is not interested in doing that it makes a little sense to use full board meeting time to discuss Option 1 vs. option 2 if anyone's interested in making that motion that would be proved what are you calling this in the dady ventilation project yes all right are there other questions would have I just done I've lost the entire page in the drive-up are there other questions know what Tim is that effectively were committing roughly one point seven million in our upcoming next year budget now so that when we do our budget time that 1.7 stays regardless of whatever else we have to move around to be supplemented with grant money do a primarily do the required work at Jonathan Daniels everything with me still all right all those in favor imposed carries 80 all right and then the second question is Option 1 versus option to and I think the easiest way to do that is going to be the recommended option from you guys was option one due primarily jady and the gym that Fuller which allows you to Stage the rest of the Fuller operations and so I think the easiest thing to do is going to be to take a motion and discuss option one and if that fails then we consider option two Mojo prove Option 1 write an option one again covered most of what JD needs effectively we would be done for the time being I know that the building could you slots but I just want to be clear it's more of a renovation then we planned on doing because we're taking essentially $890,000 and adding it to the project that buys us some additional flooring in Ada bathroom in the the ventilation with the money that were short we won't have to go back there to do ventilation we won't replace all of the flooring and we won't have all the bathroom brand new keep in mind in our elementary renovation we have not been doing all the bathrooms most are staying the same cuz we can't really afford it in our budget but it does add an ADA Bathroom from from how I'm reading this it looks like the same way. treating the elementary schools which is we have to go in and do this work anyway while we're there here's the other important work we can conveniently do over there that's exactly The Way We Were questions on either option one or option one option 2 all right so the motion is to propose option one as recommended by Salman Khan all those in favor post that carries 80 you're all good anything else on facilities on the activity buses we've been talkin about some version of those since I've been on the board so I mean initially came through as a as it is an academy fund proposal here at the high school so I'm really happy to see that that's finally gone through in a way that the district will be able to manage successfully and we will actually benefit our students well done all right education Committee in the Lancaster we did not meet in August but we do have two things in the folder to slightly different field trips for I believe it's Franklin School who is hoping to go to an apple picking trip into mass and for $5 of student then we have the high school who is hoping to go he referred $4,000 in student so to like slightly different request one is for the school year the other is April 2025 would you have I think like a nice fully submitted requests which is nice to see so we've talked a lot about that in the past couple years for both of these is anyone have questions writing about them I'm seeing just a bunch of you guys being so when did education committee approve we did at our June at committee but we just it was an oversight and it was not presented August full board meeting so that's why that's why there's a gap of the time. I might have because I remember this being one of the most complete field trip applications I've seen what we have in our drive tonight folks is what was presented to us at the June meeting I double checked with the with the minute so we're good in that regard just one housekeeping item for the field trip to the apple orchard it starts at or departure time at 10 a.m. not 10 p.m. so just four of her official record we're not having fighter jets 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tamika motion yeah let's do a motion to approve the April vacation 2020 25 trip to Spain Italy and France as presented and as mentioned this one was reviewed by the education committee a new field trip form at the high school created covers a lot more detail than what we've seen in the past based on discussions at the egg committee recently I do appreciate the icicles working putting this together easily the most comprehensive comprehensive a field trip proposal I've seen in my time on the board and education committee recommended at 5 I think of 30 vote did we actually have four people in it I think I was three questions all those in favor and you post carries 80 Sr second filter by item motion to approve the Franklin kindergarten field trip to Red Apple Farm on September 20 then sorry that these dates are reversed it says the date is September 29th but rain date the 28th is that intentional or is that just got reversed how to make sure the Motions right where I can just say end of September but I do know that Elementary kindergarten field trip at the end of September as presented and then thanks to you and to Franklin for updating this request the initial request in your drive if anyone got to early I only said red apple farm we actually didn't know what state they were asking to go to and it didn't really talk about what the purpose was Jacqueline caught that earlier today and then I've been waiting control pull together the full proposal in just a couple hours so we appreciate that any other questions on all right all those in favor and your boats carry 70 reminder to Franklin School in the cool those trips are both approved for up to five years on a recurring but if they want to keep going after that baby come back again all right did somebody not approve the Franklin when it be 8 series that says I don't know I've got seven stuck in my head even though I don't know so I'll do that again almost guarantee that's it for Education right a lot of stuff alright Finance would be Mister Roberts and he's unable to be here tonight I'm not sure that you guys had a whole lot to present as a as a committee other than the fiscal year 2223 report is in here who are normally be in here informational that it's actually in here for approval because Tim didn't quite have it finalized for reasons at the is that correct or is it still it's still not done for lots of reasons but so I'm going to put off on that it'll if we don't have a special meeting I'll take it to the next month's board meeting and that's where I think I'm going to do but it's a quinces for that no what are you looking at so you got a cup so we've got the funds transfer report in here and I do need a motion to accept that as informational so moved second questions on the funds transfer reports in your drives all those in favor any opposed 80 Tim nhdoe 25ms 25 signatures needed is that one of those ones that we need a motion to direct the board to sign it or is it just have to let me know that you need it tonight I don't but I don't feel comfortable having that done signed before the presentation of the financial report so I will file an extension and will probably sign that next month if I'm not able to get that extension then call around I'll get signatures but alright on if you need to let me know and we'll schedule a special meeting I prefer not it's hard to find time for them this time of year I go yeah I'm going to try everything I can to avoid that hello other Chris would normally speak to this and I'm going to ask either Timarron to speak to this on the consent agenda was a motion to reserve 800 61360 to $16 which is 2 and a half percent of the current Appropriations and I know what that refers to but not with the ability to explain it for other people so I'm hoping one of you can step in I throw it to Tim even take it yourself I didn't really into that I don't think we intended that to be on agenda but more on the regular genda but I tell you what that is so we have the ability each year to reserve up to two and a half percent of our current Appropriations that colonel Creations basically means the money collected from property taxes to carry forward so that we can use it as a revenue or what-have-you for the next fiscal year are the reason I didn't intend to be on the consent agenda is because we don't have the final reporting I though I know that with this reserved cuz I've done the entries myself we're going to exceed what we said we would turn back turn on reserve funds so we said we would turn back about 4.6 million with this we're still going to be about 5.5 million to reduce taxes so my recommendation would be strongly to reserve These funds if you do not Reserve these then you'll turn back rough numbers 6.3 million dollars that will be very tough when you come to budgeting for the future next fiscal year because whatever you're short from 6.3 you're going to raise in taxes so I recommend that you passed this but did I explain why you got it right past because it was in fact on the consent agenda so we would actually have to have somebody here moved to take off the consent agenda and unload it and then revote it it seems silly unless anyone on the board has a huge objection to this and we really did we really prove that exact dollar figure the 2.5% to a point because that number is not a hundred percent sure it's synonymous so I just haven't done is present the year and financials which I like to do recommend to reauthorize the superintendent to continuing the hiring process that helps streamline so the superintendent can interview and hire teachers so that we might work towards that effort filling our classrooms as robust as robustly as we can and that request is to continue that authorization through the full board meeting in February which allows us to get through the start of second semester in case there's a number of newly meant to graduates and other great folks that come our way we want to be able to welcome them to our school district so that was recommended on a vote of 320 to the full board we're going to call that a motion can I have a second this is effectively the process that we've been using Moe's of the time since covid because we have had a significant shortage in our buildings which is lesser now there has been at any time in the last three years but in a couple departments at the high school is still at a critical level what it does is allow HR and the superintendent to offer contract to qualified individuals without first getting the board approval we found that that actually has resulted in a number of people taking position it may have gone elsewhere if they had to wait that one to two weeks for a board meeting to get approval so the request is to continue what had been standard procedure only in the summer but has been for the last 2 years 3 years our method of filling vacancies in our building questions from board members all right all those in favor any approach carries 80 that's all I have for you all right thank you Scott policy committee policy committee did not meet last month mostly due to me but Jacqueline and Jennifer and superintendent Malay mat to go over the extensive list of policies that were uncovered we ask to the New Hampshire School Board Association to do a review of her policy book and they came back with a long list of recommendations of policies that were either lacking or are significantly out of date so they spent several hours triaging that list and setting up a schedule for us to get through what will pray a lot of work for the policy committee this fall so I appreciate that you guys for for doing that when we couldn't hold our regular meeting I will get going later this month on that we do have one policy that we were supposed to approve tonight but we're still having issues getting the car text version of it into the driveway parent Lee I can see the correct version in mine that that has to do with the permissions that were granted to me and the rest of you cannot and we can't School Scott Raleigh if either of you had a chance to talk to dr. Gallagher particularly I haven't had a chance to talk to her but I've got two internal experts for students there who are telling me a lot of things I'm going to ask her about very good lot of exciting things actually that they're encouraged about and other things that you just curious about so I've got a lot of things to to ask about in her perspective as well as some of the other programs you guys have been seeing coming out like what is this about what is this what is this adult adult group what is this what is that why is it important how does it fit into our strategy so I will give him more expensive before it when I'm able to keep get her perspective and timing and Etc on a lot of things are happening at the high school I had a quick head count I think either six or seven of our board members have relatives that are students in the school this year so that's a good thing given the that's the school that's that's front and center for the last two years and we're hoping to see some significant improvements this year I will say what I've seen of the new admin team they look very strong they ran a lot of the orientation day programs they were fronting all three of the assistant principals were leading sessions are very upfront about what they're hoping to do and they've been very upfront about trying to get parents on board with the changes they're trying to make in the buildings and I know from teachers they've been appreciative that and it's too early to see how this is going to play out that they've been appreciated that the admin team has been very consistent across all of the members about what they expect I'm the teachers in for the students and how situations will be addressed and I know that's one of the things that teachers have been hoping to see so looking promising but also looking forward to some more reports in high school Chester career yeah a quick update really around Staffing as reminder some recent history back in January reflect up to eat open position it's sir can you hear me now we Plex open to eat open positions we celebrated in mid-may when we had our ceremony that we were down to 21 what that means it's a lot of new staff members though town has been working closely with those new staff members but also we are now pursuing anybody knows anybody in Information Technology Information Services a it networking and it programming profession to support those worlds are open and I'm sure there are areas where there's a lot of need and desire for those positions to be filled so people people people is the focus of mr. town in the CCC thank you Dean Middle School Jacqueline Middle School off to a great start I met with Mike last week things are going well few housekeeping items open house is scheduled in just a few weeks on Thursday evening 28th September doing a little bit different format this year which I'm pleased to hear about it starts at 5:30 initially in the auditorium 5:30 to 6 Mike and Ryan another admins will first sort of doing overview and touch on a few key items and then from 6 to 7 families will move about with the classrooms meet the teachers and whatnot there is a weekly update that gets sent out for Middle School families if you're not getting that Weekly email blast call the school make sure they've got your correct email address is it is very detailed I'm I'm bring them as well and also some other highlights of this year's theme is called Embrace change is Mike said there's there's a lot of change they've got obviously Mike is new as their principal MCPE is new and as he said also you know students in this age group they're changing everyday themselves as well economically emotionally about mentally I'm so that's their team this year Mike said that he and Mr margaitis or assistant principal are also making it their daily routine that they are taking turns with lunch duty everyday and visiting the classrooms and that's for many purposes of most especially as Mike said is for students to start to see both him and Ryan in a setting where it's not just because of discipline it's all a part of that building relationship and that's really important particularly to again principal Smith is is brand new and so they really want to develop that Rapport and obviously get a chance to know the students in both ways sports tryouts happened last week and I mentioned earlier they do not have a ticket teacher who has started so we're really pleased to see that area really staffed at as you mentioned at the start of the evening George we're very excited for retune we wish her the best as she is now down to the final four and we hope her observations when did you say this week after next Rob I think we were well in that regard and we're just so thrilled that she's representing King School District in and sau29 here in our part of the state thank you Jacqueline I should note that public input. Is officially closed it has been for a little while is that on the record Franklin Jennifer this year would look different than last year what was going to be new and he sent me a very nice email back said that opening of school went really well for the 220 students and five neustadt cast members that the vision for the year is adapting and growing as Educators and meeting students where they are and focusing on staying on the trail of best practices this year something that is different they will be rolling out the school-wide implementation of a program called Second Step it's a social and emotional curriculum designed for weekly lessons announcements assembly is and includes parents links so they can do things at home and one of their school goals for the year will be to work on various ways to attendance and family engagement they're really trying to focus on that this year and their first parent engagement night will be this Thursday when they have ice cream special happening so all good things and look forward to seeing how these things play out this year thank you Jennifer Fuller School mr. Roberts is not here Jonathan Daniels and King Community Education Miss settings all right so Jonathan Daniels preschool off to a great start we've got 97 students in our preschool program that's AMPM combined Joanne Mulligan said there's a few more spots still available but she suspect once those are filled which may happen in the very near future will then be a waitlist I'm so she encourages folks to if you have not reached out to them yet and you're in need of preschool do not delay and then that the best news of all that I get to share tonight is our at Jonathan Daniels playground is getting its final finishing touches we're going to have a ribbon-cutting ceremony grand opening if you will on Friday September 29th at 10 a.m. so all are welcome for that this is pretty special not just for j.d. but for the city of Keene this is the only playground in Keene that is specifically designed for 2 to 5 year olds which is obviously developmentally a very different kind of a footprint of a playground versus even in elementary school so we're really excited about that and this again was you know Curtis give us our fun that this playground is made possible so obviously board members and other community or welcomed to attend so it's very exciting and that's it for Jonathan Daniels King Community Ed obviously sir yes thank you I forgot the other key component is Rob was just mentioning is it's also fully accessible mean there's a ramp there so be a young or old if somebody is is not you know able-bodied they they can access this easily and also sort of an added bonus to that so now I'm taking community at obviously summer classes have completed and we had nine students receive diploma credits cuz I'm closer to graduation and Vicki Carrington who's our director also reported that at the end of August their apprenticeship programs began with over 100 students enrolled one of our ESL students took and passed the L and A the license nursing assistant test so congratulations to that individual one of our ADP teachers was hired by the New Hampshire Jag which I'm kind of like how much a g stands for Rob Bryan then JG person is going to be our stew specialist for the new Ellen a program that we're going to have so that teachers in the process of recruiting students and we need at least six students to start the program so for folks out there in the community that have been thinking about Arkansas pursuing their Ellen a king Community Ed we have a new program and we're looking for students there classes at King Community Ed began yesterday on the 11th we've got four ADP classes one ESO beginner class everyday Monday through Friday 1 yes I'll intermediate Advanced which meets every Tuesday and Thursday as well as an online class on those same days so there's lots of Charities for those in our community that need DSL education and then we have three adult classes math language arts and an intense hiset prep as well as tutoring at our cat teacher so that's a pretty robust list there is a lot going on at King Community Ed so we wish them well and all of the students that are taking advantage of those programs New Hampshire jobs America's graduates to work in conjunction with an ongoing education to provide some of the I don't want to say soft skills because that's what preservative but some of the skills you need in the workplace that you necessarily get in an academic setting strong emphasis on teamwork community service workplace skills. Alright thank you Jacqueline nhsp a rolly actually has a lot of work to do tonight let me let me lead in by saying that this all has to do with the NHS be a delegate assembly which is coming up on October 14th and if you'd like I could introduce what we have to do here for this or you can if you already have an introduction workout we're going to try but I just looked at the calendar looks like if we run along we can do some next month as well so we can send one delegate one alternate to the New Hampshire school board association's annual assembly that happens on Saturday October 14th how are you feeling about that at this time I'm good to go sorry I could be one of those I thought I heard you say you wanted to go to bring him on that Saturday so we do have to vote on who we send but let's wait and do that October meeting because well if you're confident we can put you in now and we can go down there because I want to give other people option to share and I don't want them to have to decide right now so we'll do that as well when we do the voting in the primary purpose of the delegate assembly he is to Southern Hills back up even one more step in the primary role is to Advocate on the behalf of the members school boards across the state on issues at the state legislature that are to us here at the local levels they have a standing list of currently 7 proposed resolutions many of them have to do with you know lobbying the state to give us the appropriate funding that they have never done basically the entire existence of the state supporting the building funds that are not fully funded as well as some things around supporting or educator supporting our students and then so one thing they do at this meeting is about to reaffirm the existing resolutions and then every member School Board is allowed to propose a new resolutions this year it's just 12 red 12 oceans proposed by various school boards and an order for Raleigh to vote on our behalf we have to tell him how to vote so we have to look at each resolution and give him a thumbs-up or thumbs-down vote on how we went in to vote when he gets up to Concord 4 Carpenter Manchester so we'll see how far we get in one night am I correct in thinking we also need to tell you to vote up or down on reaffirming the existing seven sound right to you you do have one more I mean they do it as like a consent agenda type of thing but I have to know whether to objective cuz cuz that's not individual that's just reaffirmed the exhaust you can take them off but like I said can I drink if we have to write I have another question I'm going to him the whole thing over to you at this point I have a clarification here sometimes within this board we have very close vote tie votes on specific issues and so I want to know if it's a very close vote and there is a really good argument for the minority opinion if I I am able to vote in you no go against buy one or two votes the will of the board I don't believe Adam sorry I don't believe that you can because that is a motion in that is the policy of this board now I understand other districts might allow people to make the decision on the day because of clothes boats but this is an authorization which is the policy of this board that authorizes you to represent them and even if it is a closed boat I don't believe you have the authority to vote in the opposite of what the board has authorized you I'm asking for that clarification thank you I have persuaded other board in the past to change their vote to make it very very close so but that's a board policy that we have. Just a practice when you're bored houses in motion that is essentially a policy it might not be a written policy but it is a action of the whole so individual cannot Act on their own on behalf of the board outside of that authorization ya RAB Rob is correct in that if we've done a vote that says you have to do it this way you are locked into that okay is it possible to change the question of something what if we find something here if it's very very closer it's. Visually can I ask a what is the What is the the board on something that's really close but I'm still I'm still running the ramifications here on my head Scott find it and I think nhps in hsba tells you to get the will of your board before you go but I don't remember if they tell you to get a vote of your board or the will of your board okay I will not be a defective delegate don't worry but I do want to develop a sense of yeah with other school districts I think that's a that's a hugely important question that I think maybe we want to talk about it so I don't think we could have time to really work through that before this year's delegate assembly but no it's it's a really interesting point that you bring up in your right that some District to do allow their delegates more freedom and there have been some issues that are really really close in the past where that's been important and I'm thinking the vote to Advocate to keep gun control at a local level in the building gun control in the schools at a local level is one of those that you and Oyster River particular were successful in convincing enough districts to switch their vote to actually get that into advocacy which I never thought I'd see in this take when honestly so I think it's worth us having that discussion don't think that we can give it a proper Justice for this year's delegation will thank you I'd like to discuss in the future right now we're not submitting anything so I don't need to leverage create any leverage but I just want to bring up that okay sounds good so what I'd like to do is we've got there in your 13 your agenda if you want them their resolutions 8 through 19 and George Will fuel do the count record what the will is the win the winds in the loss it's okay let's do the easy one do you want me to read the resolution as well when I make the motion okay resolution number eight from Oyster River proposed that the NHS PA opposes any policy affecting curriculum that enables parents Guardians are other individuals or organizations circumcise their convention already extant Local School Board review policies and exposes teachers to civil suits and sanctions at the state level so I will move on behalf of the King Board of navigation to direct our delegate to vote in the affirmative on proposal number 8 I will note that the NHS PA board of directors does not support this one basically because the wording is both too broad and too vague to make advocating on this resolution effective from their perspective this does not mean that we have to do exactly what the board of directors recommends they have made some poor recommendations in the past so I will say I cannot immediately read this and understand exactly what they're getting at can I speak to it yes cuz I'm inclined to support that I've just poured this because of their even though it's they say it is not as clear as they want to that's really their job to figure out how to do it and I think we get a lot of good things that come out of Oyster River and I also believe that the work we're seeing a lot of these policies that are in turf hearing with the teachers right to teach and that are giving other other people who are non experts in the field too much control and too much too much influence cell I'm inclined to support this one actually yes I'm reading this it looks like it's aimed specifically at for example the prageru content that I talked about in my chair report where legislature looks at Local District efforts at 2 for example implement the eye or in a each curriculum in the way that our teachers are best equipped t-shirt and bypass and you know our control over curriculum our principles controller for curriculum our teachers control over curriculum the part that sod was including exposing teachers to civil suits that actually feels like it's a very different topic but as it happens I'm in favor of both of those things being thing that we Advocate about so I'm not thrilled with the wording myself and I kind of agree with the board of directors or not but I'm inclined to agree with you Raleigh that this is something that we do want to see an HSBC cuz they like it left a local control but the whole point is this is to make sure that it stays at local control us to Advocate legislation that takes it away from your local control at the school and School Board level other commentary but Jacqueline I got I'm all for at the con in the theory that they've got here but I I tend to agree with nhsp a it there's a lot of broad strokes and a lot of high-level and it as much as I want to support and have some sort of policy or resolution in place I'm just afraid that because it's so broad I'm concerned about what is the end result and then what may potentially get taken away from us at the local level I see their intent but there's just there's there's some concern for me that it's it's easy to say on a conception Bible but I'm concerned when I don't I don't see enough meat and potatoes in there this might be one of the most strongly debated once in Concord for that reason all right yes is to direct our delegate to support this one all those in favor opposed fails 325 all right number 9 what time lost brought to you by Dover proposed that the NHS PA affirms the qualifications of school librarians to research select appropriate digital and printed material for school libraries recognizing that marginalized groups have been historically underrepresented in school libraries literary collections should offer student information that provides a balance of ethnic political religious and cultural values further Library material should represent diverse points of view provide a Global Perspective stimulate critical thinking and meet the interest abilities and learning styles and information needs of the learning community probably I've never how to handle this the end I'm sorry that was a motion to have a second 2nd so the nhsp is board of directors supports but they offer a more streamlined version of the language I've never known how to vote on these for now from the it take away the reference to the librarian whereas the Dover resolution and the rationale behind it teacher put a lot of power in that office of the library in the library board and the local library board who might not be people that are in the school so I think that's why there might be some concern there so I understand that for you I'll see you rob the challenge that I have is how do you vote when you're Theirs to know we only vote Yes or No but there's two that's where I work yeah go ahead run I think your motion would have to be specific to the proposed resolution or the alternative language and if I may just while we're on that the alternative language is a little bit broader to School District staff and not just a particular position which I think is absolutely necessary as classroom teachers build libraries in their room and they ordered books and materials as well we know for reading purposes in the room so that isn't only Centra on the library and I don't think that that was dover's intent I think that they would want that broad flexibility when ordering materials in that I just think the alternative language is probably better suited language that's how they handle with their faith old on the first one if it fails babe the vote on the second one so George we can do it that way if you want we can go down the first one and vote Yes on the second one I agree with Rob on the perspective that's easiest thing to do since it's already in as a motion so other than what wrong Robin have just set it there other questions or comments alright so yes is to approve the first language and you would vote no if you want to deny both of them or if you want to use the second language all those in favor opposed Phil's 18 17 17 how to get this right eventually so then I will follow with move that the can delegate supports the ultimate language for proposal number 9 so I'm not going to read out because it's the same thing except it's a school staff instead of just librarians an interesting however that the no vote on the previous one is somebody would Library experience so now I'm wondering if I goofed it but however I assume of supporting the alternate language pause carries 80 I may ask you afterwards why all right number 10 move that our delegates support proposal number 10 to include an estimate of actual food service cost for the upcoming year in preparation of the upcoming default budget give me a second and then explain the rationale so the rationale to this is that right now we're supposed to the default budget uses last year's food budget I mean you guys are familiar with default budges abuses last year's budget some mandated changes mandated by law I usually having to do with salary and Vons there's a similar formula for for example Food Services we use this year's Food Service budget this doesn't even know why do us particularly because our food service budget is a stand-alone item their self-funded for the most part however what Raymond is suggesting is that the formula used is wildly inaccurate and then they would rather be able to make the estimate themselves rather than being stuck with the state-mandated formula bnhspa does not support because they agree with what they're saying about food service but this actually applies to a tejo host of various things that happened in our budget every year that really we can't predict what they're going to be in only can go off of for the default go off of last year's did we get a second on this or that I talk whatever thank you I guess I'm inclined to agree with the NHS PA on this one the default budget is is a messed-up process anyway but it needs a lot more changes than than just this one thing seems like a difficult thing to ask bnha put effort into kind of thoughts on that guy drawing yeah I am for finding improving food security but this is based around what happens it at Raymond and really may not be that actionable for the rest of rest of the state so I'm inclined to agree with the NHS be able to direct his recommendation to not support there is to have been in there will be more food security policies coming up but at this point this is just not tight enough for me to support anyone else those in favor of number 10 opposed fail 08 Raleigh that might be an interesting one for us to look at proposing a resolution around food security rather than budgeting for next year number 11 submitted by Monadnock propose to the DNA be able to support any legislation that intends to streamline the recruiting credentialing and hiring a certified teachers from other states this resolution is sit in support of both the state of New Hampshire credentialing laws as well as the interstate compact and reciprocity between you your neighboring states does resolution also supports changes to reduce barriers to teachers from other states who wish to transfer retirement savings from their current retirement program into the New Hampshire retirement system and the rest of the night and I need a second the rationale obviously is that New Hampshire has a hiring problem with teachers in this is one attempt to address that the NHS PA has proposed alternative language which I found earlier it's like one word difference know they added other license School staff for mothers that's right under license School staff supports which I guess I would be in favor of but I'm going to go out on a limb and say and Randy you have to agree to this cuz I'm going to change my motion to no I'm not we'll just do it the same way we did the last one so current motion is for the proposed resolution so you would vote Yes if you support this you would vote no if you don't support the resolution at all and you would vote no if you favor the ultimate language that adds other license to staff thoughts on this all those in favor which way were you going into your mind at 11 a field 08 so I will further move that we direct the delegate to support a proposal 11 the alternative language that includes the license School staffs those in favor opposed carries 80 well we only like halfway through now we're not there yet yeah alright so 12 also for Monadnock proposed to the nhspca will support legislation that clarifies the responsibility and accountability of parents and guardians of students who did not conduct themselves according to local laws or school policy nhspca will also support legislation clarifies the protocols for school districts to follow and discipline students and holding parents or Guardians accountable and there is an alternative resolution on this one as well it is very different and it appears that the board of directors spoke with Monadnock and then Monadnock have settled upon at the alternate resolution which says that the NHS will advocate for clarifying the responsibilities of school boards and School District banned students okay it's targeted primarily at truancy sentence about Behavior which they believe is was monadnock's intent that's interesting of those are two very different resolutions Riley did you have an opinion on the tube well I think it's going to be cough and kind of not a good look on holding parents and Guardians accountable I think that's going to be really really hard for us to do that because in the end work on above a state in they supposed to be accountable to the two to the parents and Guardians so I think that's a really hard one to do I can understand why someone might want to but I don't think I don't think that's viable so I would say play alternative language as well cuz at least we're dealing with one issue and I think there's different procedures that every school district has for dealing with that issue so it doesn't allow the local control and processing best thinking to deal with that issue so it's more actionable question to Rob I was want to know his opinion on this oh chair yeah so I wouldn't worry about who the responsibility is on this is actually just to support legislation that says we're going to Define what those responsibilities are to give us a path forward whether that be reportable to a specific agency or not that doesn't necessarily put added responsibility to our school staff it really just clarifies when we're not getting support from from folks for students that are either disruptive or chronically truant no I don't agree with that money I would support the alternative is well because I do think we don't want to get in the business of because remember when the NHS paib it's for something it means by proxy they're advocating for us and I'm not sure we want to be in a position of saying yes please let's pass some laws ordering the parents around it's much better to just say please tell us what the heck were supposed to do this goes wrong, the legislation decides that that impact the parents then that should be on time and not on us would be my thinking so and yes supports the initial proposal I know is if you don't think they should be advocating in any of this or you would prefer to support the alternative those in favor post There is almost forgot to fill 028 further move that the king delegates support the alternative resolution for a number 12 which leaves out parents and is just advocating for clarification of the responsibilities sorry those in favor opposed series 80 you're right while I don't know we're going to go through these yeah we one District would look like us except that it would be a district that serves six or seven towns yes one District to serve six or seven sounds of this my apply to Monadnock but like the legislature is not going to pass. Which is not the same thing as supporting Universal Pre-K so the proposed resolution is in support of universal Pre-K The Proposal ternative is supporting limited Universal Pre-K for communities that would qualify for adequacy. Which my guess is we would be on the borderline but not guaranteed much like we are for title one for some of our school set look accurate to those of you who've read legal garbage a lot so can I just do you know the difference as I do so in the proposed best resolution not the alternative the proposed resolution sounds kind of like a one-and-done type of funding source whereas the alternative looks like a ongoing funding source as it would be tied into adequacy for kindergarten which would ultimately encourage districts to grow pre-kindergarten programs with those additional revenue streams but the first one looks to me like a want to know how the first one is paid to establish the program but not pay to continue the program that does make sense to alright based on that I'm going to withdraw my motion I agree and I'm going to move that we direct our delegate to support the proposed alternative resolution for number 15 he's back more questions I realize this was a little more number 16 move that the game Board of Education Direct are delicate to support number 16 we support advocating for State sustainability dentist opportunities and targeted goals for Energy Efficiency in the expansion of renewable energy resources for electric school buses and capital funding dedicated to sustainability-related building construction renovation and infrastructure for the purpose of disgust thanks the NHS PA does not support while this may be an important issue for some school boards that proposal does not necessarily relate to school board governance or relate directly to education yeah basically the the Disco Tremont here is the NHS VA has tried to limit their advocacy very specifically to school boards in education and this is more of an Extended Stay on the other hand it's been an extended thing that's been pretty Bernanke in our facilities ft folks work very hard at this and several of our board members Advocate before it both here and in the broader community comments yeah I have something to say about this is what 30% of the cost 40% of the cost of the operating budget budgets and there are many school districts that are property poor and they can't afford this and so there are some other initiatives on the energy side and federal grants available to bring these Capital funding to many of the schools and in the state because they can't afford to operate and they what they do is they cut teachers instead of going for going for the grants I'm not sure that I would say no to this I think it's his b this is becoming pretty pretty important so off you feel differently I would totally understand but this is what's cool to do we operate facilities that's a big big big part of that we have to have a place to meet where kids can feel safe where they are it's not too hot in the summer not too cold in the winter and it it's really part of the the the the climate in the emotional climate to have a place that you want to go to did you go to school otherwise we're going to have people pulling the kids out of school that's what I'm concerned about because it feels unsafe and it's too expensive and there's going to be more and more that the property poor schools won't be able operate I guess that you know I probably should have written an alternate alternative to that but this is close enough for me I agree with nhspca to not support this are part of the state we have a lot of property poor communities but if you don't have folks on Staffing and we're blessed with a really strong central office in the finance area that is constantly looking for better rates for our utilities efficiencies going green LED lights and a lot of this stuff has been around for years you don't even have to be a School District home alone anybody who's paying the bill can seek this out so I I feel that there's a little bit of that really over-reach but I don't think a district if they haven't done something to be more efficient and watch their bottom line by suddenly having a resolution isn't going to suddenly open the doors and all of a sudden they've got solar everywhere and LED lights I I don't think that this is the most efficient use of resolution time and nhsp a time and as you said Raleigh there's there's plenty of both federal and state grants and other private grants that a district could get be at public or private if if they're needing financial help so I don't support this resolution anyone else Becca like punishment or reward is it something I like in here I just see kind of like it here you're Rebecca as something that should like be on our radar and again like part of I don't know part of this because I come from an environmental background and I just think it's really important that like we leave by example and also like have that somewhere and you know kids need to know that like we deem this stuff as important as well so I don't know I don't see anything hair that seems like there would be repercussions for districts that maybe like couldn't Embrace this right away I think this is more just like advocating that this is something that's important to us and that we'd like to see is now an eventual goal of the district so in that sense most of missing something in the language I would be inclined to support it and I think I think this board certainly is is a are you conscious and supports me know we frequently directed the facilities folks to look for ways and they're usually way ahead of us anyway but the Crux of it is whether we believe that this is something the NHS VA should be using their advocating for or not I am supporting the resolution and I want to give some political perspective so the state building called committee rejected the new 2023 building standards because they're saying that they're too expensive and that the builders won't build and they're looking more at how do we make homes cheaper so that we can house more people cuz we have a a building crisis okay I believe that it is still our responsibility to have affordable housing with is the operating and efficient Energy Efficiency and all of those things cuz that becomes in the winter more than half of the cost they spend more on those things so again there's a lot of political tension and if you to your to your point if you don't think that bnhspa should be advocating for those things which affect a lot of children that's your choice but I have to support this cuz it's that's enough and it helps more than it hurts what else alright so yes is to support the resolution which has the initials PA advocating for more incentives Etc regarding Energy Efficiency for schools those in favor hugs carries 622 really I'm going to stop at there tonight because we do have more for the regular meeting and I know that we've got a bunch of requests and non-public as well cut the quick question George agencies if we were to come up with one just so I understand that the procedure is that done in policy or Ed or like how do we order the special topping on our end if we worked if it relates to switch the topic a committee is absolutely welcome to come up with 1 and bring it to us the timeline so I like when the New Delhi the delegate assembly used to happen in like May right and the problem was it missed it was in jail January but it missed a lot of the legislation smugness live session so they were made taking resolutions and Direction on what to advocate for after that year had already passed so the whole cycle was off so the new timing for the delegate assembly is good it works with the legislative session it's bad for us because it leaves us coming up with and passing resolutions in May June and July yeah when we're focused on graduating our kids and not I'm eating some of the time so if you have something in mind I would suggest starting on it soonish Raleigh if this if this one does not work at the state level than Maybe work on a better worded one next year on the same with food security and I can see Rebecca's wheels turning so yes education committee can come up with something and bring it to the full board if I could just really quick.
